Louis Guglielmi
Louiguy wrote the melody for Édith Piaf’s La Vie en rose and the 1950 tune Cerisier rose et pommier blanc, famous in English as Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White. He also scored nearly three dozen films.
Publishing under the pen name Louiguy, Louis Guglielmi shaped mid-century popular melody with a gift for lines that travel: Piaf’s signature chanson on one hand, Pérez Prado’s resounding mambo hit on the other. His screen scores stretch from La Rose de la mer (1946) to Jean Gabin’s Verdict (1974). On later recital discs those same songs surface in fresh company, set for voices with viols, lutes and mixed chamber colours rather than the original café or dance-band frames.
