Pierre Attaingnant
Pierre Attaingnant (c. 1494–1552) was a pioneering French music printer and publisher whose work helped shape the circulation of Renaissance music across Europe. Based in Paris, he became one of the first printers to use single-impression movable type for music, a breakthrough that made printed scores faster and more economical to produce.
His extensive catalog included chansons, sacred works, instrumental pieces, and dances by many of the leading composers of his day, preserving a rich cross-section of sixteenth-century musical life. Through the reach and influence of his publications, Attaingnant played a central role in establishing Paris as a major centre of music printing and in bringing Renaissance repertoire to a wider audience.
