Timothy Young
Timothy Young is one of Australia’s most prominent and versatile pianists. A long-standing member of Ensemble Liaison, he performs widely as a chamber musician, recitalist and concerto soloist.
He is the pianist of Ensemble Liaison, the clarinet, cello and piano trio formed in 2006 and later ensemble-in-residence at Monash University. Their debut album Ensemble Liaison: Bruch, Brahms, Beethoven (TP217) presents the Beethoven and Brahms clarinet trios with four of Bruch’s Eight Pieces, shaped with fleet assurance and songful warmth.
On Blue Silence (TP222) he takes part in a century-spanning survey of Australian music for cello and piano, from Grainger’s La Scandinavie to later works of calm lyricism and fierce energy. Crossing Paths (MD 3473) sets Ensemble Liaison’s polished classical readings beside jazz-trio reimaginings of the same scores, including his solo account of Satie’s Gymnopédie No. 2.
He has also contributed piano and keyboards to large contemporary keyboard-and-percussion scores.
