Bach Piano 2

More Bach keyboard works performed on piano by Judith Lambden. Reviewer Toby Wong praised her first volume: '[Lambden’s] exceptional artistry … creates a compelling and vibrant musical narrative.'

This CD represents 17 years of Judith Lambden's expanding repertoire of Bach keyboard pieces, Bach Piano 2 culminates in this extraordinary collection of works!

In this latest edition of Bach Piano works from Judith Lambden, five major pieces from J.S. Bach are presented: The French Overture, Overture in F major, Capriccio, Aria Variata and Fantasia and Fugue in A minor.

The French Overture is a unique work. With an opening movement of about 14 minutes, it is most imposing and impressive, and then gives way to fancy in varying dances. Whilst Overture in F major, also in the French style is an earlier and less grand work, it has the same dotted rhythms in 6 movements.

Capriccio in B flat major (BWV 992) on the Departure of his Beloved brother, includes dramatic melodies of sorrow, of fear and ultimately grief, in 6 distinct movements. Aria Variata (BWV 989) with its sparse and plain rhythm, allows for rich ornamentation which fills and enhances the long sustained notes. Fantasia and Fugue in A minor was written for organ, but this is an arrangement for piano by Franz Liszt.
