Listen to the Band, Vol. 1
It has been apparent for some time that of all the children’s records available, many styles of music have been neglected. That gap is the reason this series was begun.
The Kinderplay All Stars ensemble
Chris Farley banjo, triangle
Richard Miller clarinet, xylophone
Richard Opat drums, tambourine
Roger Jane trombone
Ian Orr trumpet
William Morris tuba, kinder bells
The idea of a series of children’s records devoted to various musical styles met with great enthusiasm, and the project was begun.
Volume 1 introduces the traditional jazz band. Some tunes invite participation, some carry messages, and others introduce various instruments, but all of them are fun, and that is what jazz is about.
The Kinderplay All Stars were working jazz musicians on the Australian scene. Shirley Jacobs, who had been delighting children with her music for many years, joins them on an album of which everyone involved was proud.
Artist

Shirley Jacobs
Shirley Jacobs (1927-2015), whose records and TV appearances made her one of Australia's best-known guitar-strumming folksingers during the 1970s, embraced the instrument almost by accident. Today, Shirley's voice can still be heard on at least ten albums, on websites devoted to the nation's musical heritage.
