The New Monash Orchestra, under the direction of Andre de Quadros, joins pianist Yuri Rozum, the Monash Women's Choir and VIVE VOCE in an exciting all-Russian program featuring Tchaikovsky's first piano concerto and the rarely heard Song of the Forests by Shostakovich - his first major work for choir and orchestra.

Yuri Rozum
Yuri Rozum has performed in most European countries, as well as Japan, Argentina, and the US to critical acclaim. Rozum has performed several times in Australia with great success. In 1998 he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Music at Monash University.

André de Quadros
A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Music at Monash University, Andre de Quadros has responsibility for coordinating the Performance program, and is the musical director of the New Monash Orchestra, the Monash Sinfonia, the Monash Women's Choir and VIVA VOCE.

New Monash Orchestra
The New Monash Orchestra draws its members from students of the Bachelor of Music and talented students from other faculties of Monash University, as well as professional musicians and students from other institutions.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic era. He wrote some of the most popular concert and theatrical music in the classical repertoire, including the ballets Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty and The Nutcracker, and the 1812 Overture.
