Stumbling Along
The World Rhythm Band offers a rare blend even among today’s mixed traditions and cross-fertilisations. Contemporary jazz melody and harmony meet rhythmic practices of the Third World, played by five skilled instrumentalists with a growing reputation in Australia’s southern states.
Across six pieces the music moves between West African rhythmic drive, Turkish classical saz colour, and jazz harmony, with percussion, bass, keyboards and winds held in a tight, conversational balance.
