Mozart
Having already tackled Liszt, Chopin and Godowsky, Ian Holtham turns to Mozart in this solo piano recital for Move, continuing his survey of the virtuoso keyboard repertoire.
The programme opens with the cheeky variations on the French nursery tune "Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman" (K. 265) – better known as Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star – and continues with the companion set on "La belle Françoise" (K. 353).
Also included are the light-spirited Rondo in D major, K. 485, and the yearning Rondo in A minor, K. 511, together with the demanding Sonata in D major, K. 311, and Sonata in A minor, K. 310.
Four of these works – the two variation sets and the two sonatas – date from 1777–1778, Mozart's early mature years. The disc was recorded on a Steinway D at Melba Hall, University of Melbourne, in January and April 2001.
