World-renowned pianist Ian Holtham is no stranger to Chopin. Many Melbourne audiences would fondly remember his marathon concert recitals of the complete études, which he later recorded for Move on études.
The ballades and scherzi stand among the most significant accomplishments of Chopin's output. These eight large-scale works pair narrative ballades with scherzi of powerful contrast and intensity, and are among the composer's most individual, characteristic and dramatic pieces.
