Refer to the booklet and listen to the music at the same time. Draw your child’s attention to the link between each visual image and the song they hear. The characters in the pictures highlight a fundamental principle of music.

Suggestions under each picture help the untrained parent or instructor grasp the concept and find ways to involve the child.

Twenty-three songs have been imaginatively arranged for a wide range of real instruments — strings, woodwind, brass and percussion — recorded so that their distinctive tonal qualities are preserved.

There is room to move, dance, sing and listen carefully. Much can be done for a child’s musical understanding outside formal music education.
