Ben Robertson
Ben Robertson is an Australian double bass player valued for melodic solos, driving rhythm and a lyricism founded on uncommon virtuosity. He is a core member of the Tony Gould Trio and Quartet.
Much of his recorded work sits with those small groups, from captured live standards on The Tony Gould Quartet: Live in Concert (MD 3178) to the studio programme of The Art of Melody (MD 3425) and the scored-and-improvised pairings of Crossing Paths (MD 3473).
The same rhythmic energy and lyric bass voice also support vocal sessions and contemporary chamber scores on the Move catalogue, including acoustic bass on Just For The Record (MD 3099) and contrabass on Butterfly Modernism (MD 3362).
