Kuri: Romantic Flute
Australian–Japanese flautist Masahide Kurita (“Kuri”) offers Romantic virtuoso works for solo flute and flute with piano, with Len Vorster. The selection includes Nielsen’s Fantasy Pieces, the Donizetti Sonata, Lemmoné’s Graceful Dance and Honegger’s Danse de la chèvre.

The programme moves from Nielsen’s The Fog is Lifting and Fantasy Pieces through Andersen’s Hungary National Fantasy and Percival’s In the Forest, then the Donizetti Sonata in C major, Lemmoné’s Graceful Dance, Reinecke’s Ballade and Morlacchi’s The Swiss Shepherd. It closes with Honegger’s Danse de la chèvre and Fukushima’s Mei, Len Vorster at the piano.

Masahide Kurita
Masahide Kurita ("Kuri") started his musical education at age 5 and began training on the flute at age 11. He has taken lessons and master classes with world famous flautist James Galway in Japan, USA and Switzerland and was an active player in James Galway's International Flute Seminars held in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1994 and 1995. His meeting and subsequent lessons with James Galway were fundamental in shaping his artistic tone development. Kurita made his European debut concert with Japanese pianist Maho Nabeshima in Goerlitz, Germany in May 1999.
Len Vorster
Len Vorster is one of Australia's finest accompanists, and artistic director of Classical Palette (a Naxos series devoted to contemporary music), of the Schirmer Ensemble, and of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival.

Joachim Andersen
Carl Joachim Andersen (29 April 1847 - 7 May 1909) was a Danish flutist, conductor and composer born in Copenhagen, son of the flutist Christian Joachim Andersen.
Gaetano Donizetti
Gaetano Donizetti wrote more than seventy operas in the early Romantic bel canto style. His scores range from sparkling comedies such as L'elisir d'amore and Don Pasquale to tragic dramas including Lucia di Lammermoor and Anna Bolena.
Arthur Honegger
Arthur Honegger (1892–1955) was a Swiss composer, born in France and long based in Paris. A member of Les Six, he wrote oratorios, symphonies, film scores and chamber music, including the solo flute staple Danse de la chèvre.
John Lemmoné
John Lemmoné wrote late Romantic character pieces for flute and piano that favour brilliance, charm and light virtuosity, in a salon manner close to the violin showpieces of his day.
Carl Nielsen
Carl Nielsen’s music moves with rhythmic drive and clear, singing lines that keep shifting key underfoot. From the youthful Violin Sonata to spare organ preludes and the folk-tinged miniatures of The Mother, the writing feels vital, open-air and unmistakably his.
