The band’s mission statement puts it well: leading brass musicians with a collective focus on quality repertoire, collegiality and performance.
Recorded in four venues around Melbourne over six months, the album is assembled from real-time live performances, complete with audience reaction and applause. The security and elegance of the playing make such fine results possible with all the energy and excitement of concert performance.
Live recording always involves trade-offs, yet growing numbers of leading orchestras and choirs, especially those with their own labels, turn to the format to capture the crackling tension of real musicians before a real audience. For many listeners that recreates an authentic experience. Those who prefer pin-perfect studio balance and intonation may look elsewhere.
This collection offers an immersive experience that impresses and involves in equal measure.

Matthew van Emmerik

Born in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia in 1978, Matthew started playing Baritone Horn at the age of 7. He is the former principal euphonium player with the Central Band of the Royal Air Force based in London, United Kingdom and all Royal Australian Navy Bands.
