The Sparrow and the Mead Hall

Shichiseki
This CD brings together collaborations between Japanese violinist Miwako Abe (Pollard, Okamoto), Melbourne cellist Alister Barker (Pertout) and MKH, with solos especially written for him by Gabriella Vici and Andrian Pertout. The title Shichiseki is from the duo violin and piano work by Japanese composer Kanako Okamoto and is the Japanese Star Festival held on 7th July, coincidentally MKH’s birthday.

Jangoo Chapkhana performs on the Perth Concert Hall organ that was built by Australian organ builder Ronald Sharp. The program includes a wide variety of works by Buxtehude, Sweelinck, Bach, Messaen and others. There is also 10 minute Variation on Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring composed by the organist.

Rhythms of Change
In 2020, Australian musician Claire Edwardes, described recently as 'the wonder woman of percussion' began a movement in her home country. Rhythms of Change is a project that addresses the parity of the representation of women in classical music and specifically in the rarefied world of solo percussion music.

Scarlatti's Steinways at Melbourne
The remarkable output of 555 Keyboard Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) remains one of the most original compositional contributions in Western Art Music. Pianist Ian Holtham has selected 23 of the sonatas sequenced into four baroque tonal groupings.

Catalogue des Errances Bibliques
This is Michael Kieran Harvey's epic catalogue of Biblical errors for eight keyboardists and four percussionists, together with spoken narration written and spoken by Arjun von Caemmerer. There are 25 musical passages interspersed with 25 short narratives.

Uncovered Ground
This first-ever collection of concert works by Felicity Wilcox represents the cream of her recent chamber music compositions. They include a brand-new recording of her celebrated bass clarinet work composed for Jason Noble, ‘People of this Place’, alongside works commissioned by Ensemble Offspring, Ironwood, and the Australia Ensemble, as well as a movement from Wilcox's first string quartet, performed by Sydney Art Quartet.

Gardener of Time: Barry Conyngham at 75
This double-CD contains seven orchestral works, all by composer Barry Conyngham perhaps Australia’s most international composer, with premieres and performances of his works in Japan, America, Europe, Russia and throughout Australia. The Ormond Ensemble is conducted by Richard Davis.

Orchestral, chamber and operatic music by composer Eve Duncan, performed by a variety of different ensembles and performers.

Piano Sonata #6: 17 Graeme Lee Prints
Composed and performed by Michael Kieran Harvey during the 2020 pandemic, Piano Sonata #6 was commissioned by artist Graeme Lee in response to 17 prints he produced in July 2020. The music, the prints and Arjun von Caemmerer’s aphorisms are highly contrasting and individual.

Greta
This is Michael Kieran Harvey's fifth piano sonata, heard here in both a conventional piano version, as well as an electric keyboard interpretation. It is sub-titled 'Greta' in recognition of climate change activist Greta Thunberg. It is sub-sub-titled 'Concerto in no need of an orchestra'.

Brahms Cello
Zoe Knighton and Amir Farid present their seventh cello-piano collaboration — this time from the composer Johannes Brahms. The program includes his sonatas for cello as well as three songs where the cello presents the vocal line wordlessly.

Move 50
To celebrate Move Records’ 50th year, 24 Australian composers were invited to create a new short work for this special commemorative disc.

Flute Perspectives 2
Derek Jones (flute) and Cameron Roberts (piano) present a program of new Australian works composed by Anne Boyd, Stuart Greenbaum, Rohan Phillips, Mark Pollard and Richard Meale.

Mirabile in Prague
Australian composer John Allan has orchestrated a collection of his own original compositions. This CD also includes his orchestrations of piano pieces by Debussy and Brahms. David Kram conducts members of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra.

PRTZL
This release of original compositions by Harvey includes solo and ensemble works centred around the monumental fourth piano sonata, a homage to the courageous anti-fascist Antonio Gramsci. This anti-fascist theme percolates through all the works, which range in mood from nostalgically whimsical to furiously satirical.

50 Chinese Folk Songs
The first of the two collections on this CD, the 50 Chinese folk songs, consists of pieces arranged by Julian Yu for piano. There are also 15 other piano pieces, a mixture of arrangements of well-known Chinese songs and original compositions. All 65 are played by pianist Ke Lin.

126 Variations on "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"
Michael Kieran Harvey performs 126 variations by Julian Yu on the theme Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. Julian Yu's project presents the tune in an immense range of styles, many of which develop out of well-known classical pieces, as well as jazz and folk music.

Continental Drift

Our Favourite Things
This is the first Ted Vining Trio CD release since the passing of bass player Barry Buckley in 2006. His replacement Gareth Hill, along with Bob Sedergreen and Ted, recorded this album following a very successful tour of jazz venues around south-east Australia during August 2015.

This music CD and performance DVD is a celebration of Patañjali’s Yoga-Sūtra in music and āsana (2015) composed by Michael Kieran Harvey who also plays various keyboards, Arabella Teniswood Harvey (piano) and Eugene Ughetti (percussion).

Siva
Michael Kieran Harvey plays Australian masterworks for piano of the last fifty years. The composers represented on this great recording include Raymond Hanson, Gordon Kerry, Brendan Colbert, Helen Gifford and Neil Kelly.

JS Bach Sonatas for Viola da Gamba and Harpsichord
Considering the fame of Bach’s solo violin partitas and his solo cello suites, it is remarkable how his sonatas for viola da gamba and keyboard remain in the shadows, at best, of most music-lovers’ consciousness. The fact that some of the material in them originated elsewhere in Bach’s output hardly explains the neglect in which they have tended to lie.

Women He's Undressed
There's much variety in Cezary Skubiszewski's music for the soundtrack to the documentary about the life of Australian costume designer and three-time Oscar winner Orry-Kelly. It covers a wide range of popular 20th century musical styles – and there's never a dull moment.

For Ever
The idea for this recording came about after the Alan Lee Quartet reunion concert on the closing night of the 2014 Stonnington Festival in Melbourne, which saw the vibraphonist in collaboration with old friends Ted Vining, Tony Gould and Derek Capewell.

2 Pinots 2 Pales and 2 Hours – TNT
2 Pinots, 2 Pales and 2 Hours later, with little or no discussion, certainly no rehearsal, five pieces of spontaneous improvised music and three standard compositions were recorded with outstanding results, only achievable when three dedicated jazz musicians get together for the sole purpose of making quality music.

This live recording of pianist Geoffrey Tozer was made in June 1987 during a series of four recitals to celebrate his 25th anniversary as a performer.

Unfold: Sequence for solo cello
This 13 minute work by Don Banks was recorded at the same time as the Kreutzer Quartet's UNFOLD album. Time limitations prevented this track being included on the UNFOLD CD. You can download the track from iTunes and other download sites.

Amir Farid plays Javad Maroufi
Javād Maroufi was one of the first composers of piano music in Persia and celebrated for his contribution to Persian classical music. He was born in Tehran to musician parents Musa Maroufi and Ezra Maroufi – both pupils of renowned master, Darvish Khan. Javad’s mother died when he was young, so he was raised by his father and taught violin and tar from a young age.

Music for Trumpet and the King Of Instruments
In the world of classical music, one of the most special and enduring combinations of instruments is that of the trumpet and the pipe organ. This combination, dating back over a millenia, has produced a tradition of heroic and majestic music making.

Pieces from Childhood

As first prize winners of the 9th Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Tinalley String Quartet was awarded the opportunity to make this CD at The Banff Centre, Banff, Alberta, Canada.

The Broken Shore
This CD won Best Soundtrack Album in the APRA/AMCOS Screen Music Awards on 12 November 2014. This is the original music score for the film The Broken Shore, composed by Cezary Skubiszewski.

The Kreutzer Quartet has forged an enviable reputation as one of Europe’s most dynamic and innovative string quartets. Here they present four Australian quartets.

Fluteman
John Sangster composed the music for the little-known film "Fluteman" in 1982. The film may not be high in your mind, but the music performed by Don Burrows (flute), and eight other jazz players makes wonderful listening apart from the film.

The Messiaen Nexus
This unique disc presents an extraordinary insight into the intellectual and creative talent that arose from a particularly fertile period in the history of the Paris Conservatoire. Centred around legendary composer Oliver Messiaen, this eclectic mix of works for violin and piano highlights the influence of Messiaen on his students György Kurtág, George Benjamin and Pierre Boulez and also considers the influence on Messiaen by his teacher, Paul Dukas.

Psychosonata
A collection of Michael Kieran Harvey’s compositions from 2007-2013 ranging in mood from the relatively serious to cheerful pastiche. Harvey is joined by the very brightest young instrumentalists Australia has to offer.

A Little French Cello
A charming collection of music from the rich French school of the late 19th century. The sonority of the cello and the beautiful clarity of the piano make this CD both easy to listen to, and moving. The two performers, Zoe Knighton (Cello) and Amir Farid (Piano) are masters of their art.

Fantasie Australis
This recording features compositions by living Australian composers, mostly whom are based in Melbourne, Victoria. It is performed by the Monash Flute Ensemble directed by Peter Sheridan. The flute ensemble repertoire of Australia is rather minor compared to other national musical genres, though the country has a rich and vibrant source of fine woodwind composers.

Seasons of Love
This CD combines a jazz trio, a string orchestra, and various featured instrumental soloists, not to mention the vocal talents of Gian Slater and Eddie Perfect. Graeme Lyall has provided superbly rich arrangements of songs from the Great American Songbook in addition to other notable tunes.

Such a sky
Such a Sky features recordings of live performances from the Melbourne Recital centre. Cellist, Imogen Manins and Pianist, Tony Gould are joined by a stella lineup of guests including Slava Grigoryan, David Jones, Gian Slater and Riley Lee.

Christmas at the Sydney Town Hall, presented annually by the City of Sydney, originated in 1978 when Robert Ampt was appointed the fourth Sydney City Organist. Since then the structure and content of this event has evolved into one of Sydney’s major Christmas celebrations.
